NAFS (US) (Structural)
The North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), also known as AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440, defines structural performance requirements for windows, doors, and skylights used in residential and commercial construction. Structural ratings under NAFS verify that a product can withstand design wind loads and operating forces without failure, deformation, or loss of functionality.
NAFS structural performance is expressed in terms of Performance Class (R, LC, CW, or AW) and Performance Grade (PG), both determined through laboratory testing in accordance with ASTM and AAMA protocols. The tests evaluate resistance to wind pressure, uniform load deflection, operating force, and structural integrity under load.
For frameless door systems, NAFS structural ratings help ensure product durability, safety, and suitability for specific building applications and exposure conditions. These ratings are commonly required for code compliance, project submittals, and architectural specifications across North America.
Compliance with NAFS confirms that a product has been independently tested and meets recognized industry standards for structural performance under wind load and service conditions.
