Project Overview

This row house in London has been extended to the rear with a striking single-story addition in textured red brick, finished inside with a herringbone floor and dark kitchen units. The owners wanted the new kitchen and dining space to connect directly with the courtyard garden, so FGC fitted frameless slide and stack doors to the garden elevation, meeting a fixed picture window at the corner.

Door Configuration

The door panels sit in a slim, dark powder-coated frame with no vertical bars between them when closed, giving a clear view through to the planting and the timber-clad boundary. Each panel slides along the track and stacks against the next, so the opening can be used as an everyday doorway or opened fully on a warm day.

Design & Finish

The dark frames pick up the black kitchen units and the window frames of the main house, while the low threshold runs the herringbone floor almost level with the paving outside. The fixed glazing on the return elevation wraps the corner, so the room feels open to the garden even with the doors closed.
